BCAC Artist of the month

About BCAC Artist of the month

BAY CITY - The Bay City Art Center's Artist of the Month for June is Stephan Seable.

A free Artist of the Month reception for Seable will be from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the center. Seable's artwork will be on display at the center throughout the month.

Seable has participated in various shows in Oregon, Utah and California, and has contracted a variety of private commissions, executing large works in bronze, fiber glass, welded sculpture and wood. He has constructed large wooden toys for children and designed and created playground sculpture for the "Concord We Care Center" and Ambrose School in Pittsburg, Calif.

The subject matter is varied and is inspired by love of nature and family (which includes eight children and 42 grandchildren). He also incorporates Biblical themes in his work, which are inspired by the faith of patriarchs and prophets.

"My love of art has been a dominating force in my life, and I believe the appreciation of beauty is God given," the artist states on his website. "Art can be a reflection of the culture of man and a mirror of the mind. It is a tool that can inspire and uplift or degrade and debase. I believe our choices in art and in life shape and color the fabric of our souls. I choose to celebrate the good and the beautiful in my work."

Seable's international work includes completing a mural for Foreign Affairs College in Beijing, China and a mural for the American Embassy in Beijing in 2000.

He donated murals and directed volunteers painting for rural schools and a private home in Buin, Chile, 2003-2005.

Seable was born in Springfield, Idaho, then raised and educated in Portland.

He attended Linfield College in McMinnville, studying biology and art; Museum Art School in Portland studying biological illustration; and Portland State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Art/Biology/Humanities. He received a master of arts in sculpture and design at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He has taken post-masters extension classes at the University of California, Hayward State College, Civic Arts, and California College of Arts and Crafts.
